Action Plan
Action Item I: Improve Student Achievement in ELA Reading Comprehension and Writing Strategies
Rationale/Critical Need:
In the process of compiling the WASC Self-Study report, VPCHS’ staff found that there was a need to
improve student achievement in English Language Arts reading comprehension and writing strategies for all student groups.
Supporting 2008-2009 Data:
AYP, CAHSEE, California Standards Test, LAUSD Periodic Assessment, In-house Assessment, Classroom observations, student work, one-on-one assessment.
No Child Left Behind Goals:
All students will strive to attain the proficiency levels established by No Child Left Behind. While NCLB benchmarks are established to be much higher, we want to set realistic goals for our students. VP’s benchmarks are:
2009-10: 10% of our students attained proficiency or above on the Standards-Based Achievement Test (STAR);
2010-11: 13% of our students will attain proficiency or above on the Standards-Based Achievement Test (STAR)
ESLR Addressed:
Read, write, and compute mathematical calculations at the “proficient” or above level on the Periodic Assessment, CAHSEE, CST, EAP, PSAT.
